Mid Century, This Century: Design Project Mira Monte

Swank Design is thrilled to present our latest residential project, Mira Monte. With cool paint tones, warm wood accents and crisp pops of white - this design is a modern approach to a mid century classic. The combination of retro touches with contemporary elements blended seamlessly to bring this tired dingy relic of the past into 2023.

Minimal lines, open concept kitchen and a peaked wood celling to die for - this project is the perfect balance of old and new. We wanted to pay tribute to the history of this charming home, while creating a fresh new space with classic choices to last another century.

BEFORE

The original design was quirky, and the character was undeniable. We knew we wanted to embrace those MCM vibes, while bringing the space into the 21st century. Out with the dated linoleum tile, overly traditional wallpaper and iron scroll accents. In with today’s design trends of clean lines, high contrast colors and warm wood tones.

AFTER

Creating an open space was key - from kitchen to dining to living room, the transitions are seamless. Not only does this allow for practical living and endless entertaining options but the design choices are undeniable. All individual spaces, perfectly flow from one to the next as color, texture and materials are intentionally balanced.

Hues found in furniture selections and curated décor are carried throughout the joint space to highlight the home’s original features. The stars of the show being the incredible wood beamed ceiling and stunning fireplace. Now both able to really shine with fresh modern paint, new mantel and a statement light fixture.

The kitchen underwent the biggest transformation of all. Now practical, and designed with today’s lifestyle in mind. We embraced modern features, while still keeping to classic lines. It’s open and airy and with all the functionality a contemporary family could ask for. The gold accents, marble counter tops, two-toned cabinetry and chevron patterned flooring all work seamlessly together. None out-shining the other.

Swank Design was so honored to work on this project and with the owners of this home. We love being a part of the history and story of these mid-century remodels. Both Swank and Swoon Home take so much inspiration from this design era, and truly embrace the iconic style. To see more of our Mira Monte Project click below.
